April 30 – Juneau Community Wetlands Cleanup

DATE: Saturday, April 30, 2022

TIMELINE:

  • 8:00am – Cleanup starts at Sunny Point (both east and west access points)
  • 8:00am – A Discovery Southeast naturalist will be on hand at Sunny Point to provide drop-in activities for kids. 
  • 8:00am – Cleanup start at Vanderbilt Creek (meet at the Western Auto Marine parking lot)
  • 10:00am – Cleanup end 
  • 11:30am – Picnic lunch at Alaskan Brewing Company Tasting Room for volunteers with wristbands (available at bag pick-up sites).

ACCESS POINTS
Sunny Point: Plan to meet at the Sunny Point pullout on Sunny Drive (both the west and east entry points to the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge). To get there, go under the Egan Drive underpass onto Sunny Drive, in Juneau. See Google Map on this page for directions from your location.

Western Auto Marine: Plan to meet in the Western Auto Marine parking lot at 8:00am. SEALT’s Stewardship Coordinator, Jordan Tanguay, will lead the group across the street and onto the Vanderbilt Creek Conservation property. If you know ahead of time that you are planning to go to this area, please contact Jordan at jordan@sealt.org.

WHAT TO BRING: Old tarps (useful for dragging rubbish), rubber boots, and gloves.

*Social distancing is encouraged. Garbage bags and hand sanitizer will be provided; please plan to bring your own mask.
